In 2009, he founded the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), an interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Luxembourg dedicated to the analysis of neurodegenerative diseases through computational and system biology oriented approaches. Rudi Balling is member of several Scientific Advisory Boards, amongst others the Excellence Cluster „Inflammation at Interfaces” at the University of Kiel (since 2013, elected chairman since 2014), the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences Advisory Council (since 2013) and the Institute of Molecular Genetics (IMG), Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (since 2013). Since 2015, he coordinates the National Centre of Excellence in Research on Parkinson’s Disease.

Rejko Krüger is Professor for Neuroscience at the University of Luxembourg and Head of the Clinical and Experimental Neuroscience Group at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine. Prior to this position, he was Associate Professor of Neurology at the Department for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Head of the Laboratory for Functional Neurogenomics at the Hertie-Institute for Clinical Brain Research, University of Tübingen, Germany. Furthermore, he was the head of the Outpatients Clinic for Deep Brain Stimulation (BrainStimNet) at the University Hospital Tübingen. Rejko Krüger studied medicine at the Ruhr- University Bochum, Germany, and the Louis-Pasteur-University, Strasbourg, France. He obtained his clinical experience and specialization in neurology at the Ruhr-University Bochum and the Tübingen University with a focus on movement disorders and specialized in neurology in 2005. From 1996 to 2000, he worked as a research fellow in the Department of Neurology and Molecular Human Genetics of the Ruhr-University Bochum and identified the second known mutation in the alpha-synuclein gene. In 2001, he became junior group leader at the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research Tübingen. Dr. Krüger received the National Research Award of the German Parkinson’s Disease Association in 2001.
